
Ramirez lobbied to stay. For all the bizarre stories surrounding Manny Ramirez in his final days in Boston, it was one of the first tales out of Los Angeles that may have been the most confounding. Two days after the trade, former Globe baseball writer Gordon Edes reported that Manny claimed he would clean up his act -- if his contract was rearranged. The Sox, of course, told him to pack his sunscreen and hit the road.
