The cupcake craze isn't exactly new. It's been nine calorie-filled years since Carrie Bradshaw and the "Sex and the City" ladies scarfed down the frosted confections at New York's Magnolia Bakery, launching a nationwide sugar craving. Cupcakeries have since sprouted from city blocks and suburban strip malls — and Boston certainly has its share.

Our mission? To put on our elastic-waist pants and hit as many local cupcake places as possible in three days. (Tough job, we know!) Here's what we found.
