Sure, living in the midst of tens of thousands of students can have its drawbacks. Loud, late, and loutish, they still drive nicer cars than yours. Their well-endowed and land-rich campuses are excused from paying taxes. There's game-day traffic. And bow ties. But there are perks, too -- secret ones, in some cases, behind all that ivy-covered brick. Singular (and sometimes singularly weird) academic riches the likes of which exist for people nowhere else.
