30 perks of living in a college town

Sure, living in the midst of tens of thousands of students can have its drawbacks. Loud, late, and loutish, they still drive nicer cars than yours. Their well-endowed and land-rich campuses are excused from paying taxes. There's game-day traffic. And bow ties. But there are perks, too -- secret ones, in some cases, behind all that ivy-covered brick. Singular (and sometimes singularly weird) academic riches the likes of which exist for people nowhere else. And sensitive to the whole town-gown thing, if not because of it, your neighborhood university or college wants to share them with you, along with other services you didn't know they provide. — Jon Marcus
