Roughing It

Pitch a tent and go camping on one of the Boston Harbor Islands. Three of the 34 islands offer sites for campers, and it's the ultimate escape from city life — there are no flush toilets, running water, showers, electricity, or telephones. In other words, leave the Blackberry at home.

Camping is available by reservation only on Grape, Bumpkin, and Lovells Islands. Dates and availability vary depending on the island. Visit reserveamerica.com or call 877-422-6762 to make a reservation.

Pick which island you'd like to camp on and visit bostonislands.com to get full directions.
