Will bike for pizza

Posted by Courtney Hollands May 20, 2008 12:01 PM

Boston cyclists: Give yourself a hand. You have rock hard, to die-for calves, and are saving money biking to work while the rest of us commuting fools shell out $60/tank at the pump. Plus, Mother Nature is practically your BFF.

But you also have to brave the elements, duck and dodge between crazy drivers, and show up sweaty to your final destination (the office, dance practice, a wedding reception, whatever). Here's your reward: Purchase a Bicycle Benefits sticker and save money or get free stuff from several Boston, Brookline, Somerville, and Cambridge restaurants and vendors.

You have to show the sticker stuck to you helmet to get the discounts. The idea behind Bicycle Benefits is to reward bikers and bike safety, you see. That shouldn't be a problem considering you wear a helmet everywhere you ride already, right? (Yes, mom.)

Here are just a few of the perks: $18 haircuts at Barbershop Deluxe on Wednesdays; 15% off your order at Bloc 11; 10% of locks and lights at Cambridge Bicycle; and free dessert (!) at Pop's Restaurant. Plus, because the program kicks off in Boston this week, there are additional freebies from now until Friday — Including a free slice at Bostone Pizza tomorrow. Word.

Click here for a full list of discounts and locations where you can purchase your sticker. Or, as I like to call it, your medal of honor.

  1. Not all of us who use our bikes enjoy being mocked by a writer with a adolescent sense of humor. This reads like it was written for the Phoenix.

  1. If your a dude, please do the rest of us a favor. Please change out of those spandex shorts before you come into the restaurant. Nobody wants to see your bulge while they're eating.

  1. Hi there, Adult Biker Who Loves the English Language:

Sorry you perceived my tone as mocking! I am a proud bike owner and rider and a member of the Bike Benefits program. Believe me, I love bikers and was just having some fun with the topic.

    Happy pedaling,

    Courtney
