Boston Sports Parades, Then vs. Now

Posted by Emily Sweeney June 20, 2008 01:36 PM

As you know, the Celtics had their parade this week.....and it seems like just yesterday the Pats and the Red Sox had theirs.

So you know what I think? It's time for the Bruins to win a national championship. (Remember the Bruins? They're those guys who play that sport with skates, sticks and a puck?) Hard to believe it's been over 30 years since they've won the Stanley Cup.

I went on YouTube and found a few video clips of the last time the Bruins had a parade through the streets on Boston:

1972 Bruins street celebration

the goal that started it all: Bobby Orr scores against St. Louis, 1970

  1. it is indeed too bad the Bruins aren't enjoying the benefits of the other teams in town. is it management? do they have no desire to push the team over the top? I mean it's not like Ray Bourque is suddenly going to come out of retirement to play a season. Now I sound like Rick Pitino!!! But I went to a bruins game last year against the New York Rangers and the place was packed with THEIR fans! Embarrassing indeed! I know there is a core of Bruins fans but is it the price that drives them away? (i know if I could I would by tickets, but the price is a little glaring) If the Bruins did get a superstar would it then be worth it to go see them? Or do players say no to Boston because our fan base is so demanding?
well that's my 25 cents on the situation.....

  1. The Boston Bruins will not win another championship until they get new ownership. The best chance Boston has to win a NHL Championship is if the Bruins move to another city and we attract another team to move to Boston.
Also, as a footnote we should add Boston College hockey to the list of championship teams.

  1. I'm hoping that the fans will get behind the Bruins this season and will them to a championship. We've been World Series Champs, SuperBowl Champs, and NBA Champs. It's time we really come out and support the Bruins. They did an outstanding job in the playoffs against the Canadiens last season and I'm hoping that hunger carries over to the upcoming season. I truly believe that if the Bruins can win the Cup within the next few years, the parade for this team will be unbelievable. Not only because it'll be the Bruins winning for the first time in over 30 years, but because it will solidify the Boston/New England area as Championship Central.

  1. So you know what I think? I think Boston has gotten so smug that I'm glad no one cares about the Bruins. Leave your 'win-a-championship-or-you-stink' expectations in the car with your Sox sticker, your Pats sticker and the Celtics sticker you bought in March. Nod your head when Dale Arnold (and I love Dale) says the B's HAVE to do something big to get noticed in this town. It'll never be enough. So please leave us alone.
