Creme on a cone

Posted by Courtney Hollands July 9, 2008 10:43 PM

I'm an ice cream purist — give me all chocolate, all the time. Chocolate pudding. Chocolate oreo. Chocolate peanut butter swirl. Sometimes Heavenly Hash. And Christina's richly delicious chocolate mousse is to die for.

So, imagine my surprise when my cocoa-craving synapses didn't fire last night and I found myself sampling the Inman Square shop's burnt sugar flavor. Wow. Can you say intense? It tastes just like chilled crème brûlée. Sweet and a little bit smoky.

In fact, I may just be a convert. I'd like to bestow on burnt sugar the highest honor I can give to a Christina's ice cream flavor: It's worth the near-vertical bike ride back from Inman Square up to my house on Somerville's Prospect Hill on a sticky summer night. Gold star.
