Sanding ovation
The Cyclone roller coaster at Revere Beach is long gone, and so are the tough girls from Revere who hung out at the arcade with teased hair and killer eyeliner. And I don't go to Revere Beach every day to play whist with the boys and win enough money for a piece of pizza and bus fare home. Ah, the good old days.
While I'm remembering my youth, you should head to Revere Beach to see the fabulous sculptures at the New England Sand Sculpting Festival. The dozen or so pieces were just about ready for Saturday's deadline when I was there Friday night with my husband, daughter, sister, and her adorable shiba inu, Miss Kaiya. My favorite of the sand-art gems was "Take It To the Limit" by Steve Topazio from Tiverton, R.I. Two huge thumbs are at the controls of a video game while a car comes smashing through the TV screen - sweet. The sculptures are there all summer and you can read about them here.
While you're strolling along the beach, watch the volleyball game (and the guys in their tiny bathing suits), count the languages you'll hear while you stroll, get an ice cream at Twist & Shake, and look for Miss Kaiya who usually wears her pink girly-girl collar.
