Class is in session
You know that hilarious Jack Black movie, where he fakes teaching credentials to stage a rock-and-roll coup at a private school, swapping spelling lessons with shredding lessons? I love that movie. Also, there is a real-life School of Rock, except Paul Green is the teacher, not Jack Black. It predated the movie by about five years.
Since 1998, when Green founded the school in Philadelphia, his students have made waves internationally with their inspired theme concerts, interpreting everything from Queen to King Crimson and Frank Zappa.
Tomorrow and Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m., you could play witness to another chapter in their super-cool sonic textbook. A troupe of Green's well-educated young rockers are playing a show called Corporate Rock! at the Middle East upstairs, and they'll run the gamut of covers, tackling everything from Kansas to Billy Squier.
Although it sounds cute, don't expect a corny game of grown-up. These kids are the real deal.
