Planning a weekend in Portland? Quaffing at newish beer bar Novare Res (Latin for "Start a revolution") in the Old Port is a must. Excuse me while I gush...

The bar/cafe opened last June and features a lovely patio. Atmosphere, blah blah blah. Let's get to the good stuff: The place offers 25 beers on tap and more than 300 beers from all over the world in bottles. The taps rotate — right now, there are 25 Rogue Ales on draught. Yes, even Somer Orange Honey Ale. My favorite pour when we visited a few weekends ago was a Dupont Forêt. Delicious.

Pair the brews with quirky selections from the meat and cheese bar and you're all set for a lazy afternoon in the sun.
