Mmm, pancakes. IHOP is celebrating National Pancake Day on Feb. 23 by giving away free short stacks (three cakes per stack, folks) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at its locations in Cambridge, Brighton, and beyond. People partaking in the syrupy festivities are encouraged to make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network.

Oh, and as a point of trivia, National Pancake Day usually takes place on Shrove Tuesday (aka Mardi Gras). Shrove Tuesday dates back several centuries when people in England made pancakes to use up all the household butter, eggs, and milk before Lent. This year, IHOP is celebrating a week late — but we think every Tuesday should be Fat Tuesday.
