7 ways to celebrate dad this Father's Day

Father's Day is this Sunday, June 17, and in honor of dear ol' dad we're rounding up some great events happening for the occasion. From a pig roast to a classic car show and everything in between, here's what's happening.

BOURBON AND ICE CREAM PAIRING: Curtis McMillan, president of McMillan Distillery, will lead a class at Gordon's Fine Wine & Culinary Center in Waltham on Saturday. Titled "Bourbon is Better than a Tie," McMillan will pair four JP Licks ice cream samples with four different types of bourbon. JP Licks has even created a bourbon ice cream just for the occasion. OLDE TIME CAR SHOW: The Holliston Historical Society is hosting its 10th Annual Father's Day Olde Time Car Show, where a slew of hot rods, roadsters, and even a motorcycle or two will be parked on the lawn from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Sunday. FREE ZOO ADMISSION FOR DADS: Parenting and zookeeping isn't that far off, is it? Dads can enjoy free admission to both the Franklin Park Zoo and the Stone Zoo on Sunday for Father's Day, where the whole family can explore exhibits featuring gorillas, lemurs, tropical birds, gibbons, and much more. To get a glimpse of what parenting is like in the wild, be sure to check out Kit the gorilla at the Franklin Park Zoo, proud papa to three daughters. The Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence will also be offering free admission to dads with their little ones in tow. CRUISE AROUND THE HARBOR: The weather forecast looks clear for the weekend, so why not take dad out on the water? Daytime trips out of Boston range from a brunch and DJ cruise aboard the Spirit of Boston and food and live entertainment on the Odyssey. Or enjoy the sights of Salem Sound aboard a jazz brunch cruise with a performance by The Andrew Gravel Standards Trio. Search all Father's Day cruises.


SPECIALTY BLOODY MARYS AT MARKET: Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is cooking up some treats at Market in honor of Father's Day. In addition to a prix-fixe brunch and dinner menu, there will also be a trio of specialty Bloody Mary options. The Southern BBQ Bloody Mary has BBQ spiced tomato juice, bourbon, and grilled shrimp, the Canadian BLT martini includes bacon-infused vodka, tomatillo water, and grilled romaine, and a third option, the Midnight in Qatar Bloody Mary is made with Bombay Sapphire gin, cuttlefish ink, and rimmed with black sea salt. BRUNCH AND GOLF AT AURA: Have some brunch and let dad work on his short game at the Seaport Hotel's Aura, which will have a small putting green set up just for the occasion. In addition to a brunch menu of things like cheesy grits, salmon cake benedict, prime rib, and chili con carne, there will also be craft stations set up to help keep the kids occupied. PIG ROAST AT CLINK: How's this for dad: in addition to the pig roast in the courtyard of the Liberty Hotel, there will also be hand-rolled cigars, live music, and samples of rye, bourbon, and whiskey from Michter’s.
