Celebrations on December 5, 1933 as Prohibition was repealed rivaled that of New Year's Eve. Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st Amendment achieving the requisite three-fourths majority of states' approvals on this date. Massachusetts cast its repeal vote and ratified the 21st Amendment on June 26 1933. Mississippi, the last dry state in the Union ended Prohibition in 1966.
