The MALE Center

Art, film, and literature converge at the MALE Center, which hosts gay and lesbian-themed book readings, movie nights, and special events like art openings every month. The purpose is to build "a sense of community," many say is lacking from the club and Internet scene, marketing manager Keith Orr says.

Casual night out: "It's fairly informal and free-forming," Orr adds, and events typically draw between 20 and 45 people of different ages and ethnicities. Center-goers will often continue socializing by heading out to a bar or a club afterward.
