Gender Crash

Venue: Spontaneous Celebrations

When: 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month

For nearly nine years, Gender Crash has been one of Boston's few queer and transgender open mic nights, where "anything goes, from poetry to journal essays to rants to acoustic music dance performances," founder Gunner Scott says.

Wide-open: The night often draws between 60 to 100 people ranging in age from 16 to 70, Scott says. "The first half of the night is the PG section, after the break, it's the rated R section."

Cost: $5 to $10, depending on how much you can pay.
