What's on her iPod: Flying Lotus, an electronic music artist who's also John Coltrane's nephew. He "doesn't really sound like anything else," says DJ Pandai'a.

On the gender issue: "It can be difficult," she says. "I definitely get more attention nationally and also here [in Boston], but the bottom line is when you're playing for someone and you close your eyes, it doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl."
