What do you think of the new tunnel?
The new northbound Central Artery tunnel, which opened to traffic on Saturday night, is getting its first big test today as it handles the full onslaught of the weekday morning commute. Tell us about your experience driving through the tunnel. Could you find your way? How was traffic moving? Do you think the new highway will cut down on traffic jams downtown?

JPeterman from Winthrop must be a lobbyist for the Big Dig contractors. The commute is horrible, and the project is OUTDATED, b/c we still sit in traffic!!!

I'll bet that some of the people who are complaining today probably had similar complaints when they first got indoor plumbing. "This is so stupid. Yeah, yeah, its great to not have to walk into the woods to move my bowels, but nobody told me that I would have to flush the darn thing. I'm going back to the outhouse."

I went thru there @ noon on sunday, and there was trafic. Are we under the impression there is supposed to be no more trafic?

The tunnel is only three lanes!! The Central Artery is three lanes. How is that going to cut down on traffic?? Plus, an accident inside a tunnel will be much worse than one outside.

The planners ought to be sued. How does one ever expect that 7 lanes of traffic from before savin hill (1 HOV + 4 lanes + 2 lanes merging from Route 3A) squeezed down to the three lanes entering the tunnel will solve our traffic nightmare from the south? A sad waste of $14.7b. The plans should have included a minimum of 4 lanes at the entrance... that would have kept open the hope that maybe someday, we could have widened the bottleneck at savin hill to exit 20 from four to five lanes. Only THEN could you expect some improvement. I'm sure the people saying positive comments didn't experience today's south-shore commute; mine took me 20 minutes MORE than usual. The new tunnel didn't make a difference... all the problems (always) happen before the tunnel.
