What do you think of the new tunnel?

The new northbound Central Artery tunnel, which opened to traffic on Saturday night, is getting its first big test today as it handles the full onslaught of the weekday morning commute. Tell us about your experience driving through the tunnel. Could you find your way? How was traffic moving? Do you think the new highway will cut down on traffic jams downtown?   Complete Big Dig coverage

Why are the yellow lamps on 24/7? On both I-93 and I-90 it's rather jarring to have that bright light assault you at night.

John, Somerville

It was twice as slow up to exit 20, then thinned out dramatically once you approached the tunnel. Net effect - 0. I dont understand how keeping the same amount of lanes through the city is going to make a bit of difference. Same # of cars each morning, same # of lanes, somehow doesn't add up to a quicker commute as I see it. They should open up the now unused lanes to traffic going south so that at least going south will be much quicker until they get the second half of the tunnel open next year. If they dont, it seems a major waste of space.

Cortney, Quincy

The main fact of the case. IT IS NOT DONE, do not waste our time trying to butter us up with accomplishments that are not completed. Can people drive South yet? NO! Its like a turkey sandwich without bread and mustard and its been so many decades now, the only thing that has gone South is the turkey. If you would like another corruption ridden project to look into where the only people to benefit are politicians, union workers with bad backs, and the police, check out the bridge that crosses over route 3 in Kingston. They have been working on it for about 20 years and it still looks like a bridge in Baghdad. It is the younger brother of the BIG DIG.

James, Carver

I fail to see how this new tunnel will alleviate traffic. With only 2 exits (no Causeway St. exit anymore) to get out of the tunnel, I can only imagine how backed up those two exits will be. I'm very upset that there isn't a Causeway St. exit anymore, getting to the Fleet Center/North Station is going to be a nightmare of weaving through the city from either the Government Center exit or Storrow Drive exit. Also, it doesn't seem like there are any improvements planned for coming into the city from the Mass Pike. I just don't have high hopes for the Big Dig improving the traffic problems. If someone could explain how this is going to make things better, it would be greatly appreciated.

Anne, Newton

Amazing,efficient,21st Century technology!

A colossal waste of money. The tunnel is only four lanes!!!! If you think adding only one more lane is going to help out the traffic problems in Boston, you're crazy! All that money for just one more lane, what a disappointment. My commute to the north end took longer. They should leave the old artery in place so there would be two highways through town instead of one. Name another major US city that only has one highway through town? What a horrible mess this whole thing is!

John, Taunton

It is great. I went to see yesterday nite. It is great!. Hope this reduce the traffic jams.

Renga, Woburn

It is a drag. I drive to Danny Smith's Deli in Sandwich and it is too long.

SBlanchard, Bourne, MA

I just drove through that mess. I think they should order a few air strikes on this disaster. Someone call the airforce quick!!!!!

M. Borezo, Charleton Mass

This is what we get for all the billions of $$$ spent on this mess?? It still tok me one hour to get into the city. What a JOKE. We should have spent the money on Aides research....
