What is the fastest growing airport in America? We’ll give you a hint: Christina Aguilera is playing a jazz fest close by this Friday night.
If you guessed Louis Armstrong International Airport, located in Louisiana 11 miles from downtown New Orleans, you are correct. And for those flying there this week to catch the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, we are officially jealous.
But back to the airports. According to Airline Weekly, Armstrong’s growth — 7 percent last year — is due to Southwest expanding and Spirit Airlines adding more flights. Last year, 9.2 million passengers boarded flights there. The airport will add a brand new, $826 million terminal in four years. The folks there are hoping the airport’s new addition will welcome Super Bowl fans in 2018 should New Orleans win its bid to host.
