What to do
This relatively new Chilean cruise line sends its small, shipshape liner, Mare Australis, on an ''around the Horn" shuttle route between the Chilean city of Punta Arenas and the Argentine city of Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego. Cape Horn is as far south as a landlubber can get (other than Antarctica). Three-, four-, and seven-night cruise packages available from October to April. The three-night cruise costs $681-$1,629 per person, double occupancy, depending on season and cabin level.
With offices in Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, Chile, this tour company is friendly and well organized, with English-speaking guides and a wide range of tours at various price levels, or you can design your own. Among other destinations in Chile and Argentina, COMAPA guides can take you to glaciers like Balmaceda, Serrano, and Grey; to the scenic near-glacier Argentine town of El Calafate; and to the Chilean national park known as Torres del Paine.
Natural Habitat Adventures
