How to get there

The joy of Utah is that you can leave Boston at breakfast and be skiing before lunch. At press time, fares for nonstop flights to Salt Lake City began at $318 on America West Airlines and $348 on American Airlines.

The next clinic is scheduled April 1-5 at Alta, Utah. The $1,495 fee includes room and board at the Alta Lodge. Alta does not allow snowboards.

Optional homework

Purchase ''The Path of the Human Being" by Dennis Genpo Merzel (Shambhala). The book need not be read in its entirety. A good place to start is Chapter 21: ''Big Mind."
