What we liked most: Watching the moon at night from the outdoor hot tub.
What we liked least:
The breakfast room was too small to accommodate guests on the mornings we were there. Guests lined up at the coffee thermoses, and by 8:30, the fresh fruit salad was gone.
What surprised us: The "distressed" mirror frames in the rooms are actually the window frames of the original structure.
You know you're at the Porches Inn when . . . The front porch rocking chairs have a view not of mountains but of the sprawling brick backside of MASS MoCA.
Rates: Prices change according to the season. Winter rates are $135-$259 for guest room with king- or queen-size beds and a private bath. Summer rates are $160-$295.
Directions: North Adams is about 140 miles west of Boston. Take Route 2 west into North Adams, and turn right at the second light onto Holden Street. Take an immediate left onto St. Anthony's Drive, then a right on Marshall Street and a left onto River Street.![]()
