The Antarctica, Falklands, and South Georgia cruise I took in December on Lindblad Expeditions' Endeavour was billed as a ''Photo Expedition" and the ship was full of talented amateur photographers, those who love nature, and regular tourists like me. One of the many good things about a Lindblad trip is their fleet of inflatable Zodiac boats that work fast and efficiently to get passengers ashore even in remote bays and inlets. Public spaces aboard ship are nicely designed, including a library stuffed with relevant books (not to mention a lifetime supply of Danish butter cookies).
Meals were delightful and tasty, though I was a little surprised that we were billed even for table wines at dinner.
Lindblad is a partner with National Geographic, and among other features, its photo expeditions give interested passengers plenty of sunrise and sunset landings for photogenic lighting, lectures on nature and photography, and friendly coaching from pros like those on my trip, nature photographer Ralph Lee Hopkins and National Geographic historian Kim Heacox.
Lindblad's Antarctica, Falklands, and South Georgia cruises are scheduled for 25-day itineraries in December 2005 and February 2006. Per-person double-occupancy rates are $13,990 to $25,490 -- including accommodations, meals, and the flight from Santiago, Chile, to Punta Arenas, as well as the return flight from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Santiago. Not included is round-trip airfare to Santiago.![]()
