Mushroom hunters need the following equipment: hiking boots or walking shoes, insect repellent, food and water, and a basket to carry specimens. Long pants are recommended to avoid ticks. Novices are advised not to eat any mushrooms until they have been positively identified. (Experienced collectors typically bring field guides to aid in identification.) Outings are rarely canceled due to weather, so bring appropriate gear.
