26 King St., Rockport
800-865-2122
What we liked most: The location in a quiet, residential neighborhood just a short walk from scenic Bearskin Neck.
What we liked least: Crowded quarters in the dining room at breakfast.
What surprised us: How well equipped the carriage house rooms are for an extended stay.
You know you're at the Linden Tree Inn when . . . you hear guests imploring innkeeper Tobey Shepherd to share her recipe for scones. (Pssst! It's on the website.)
Rates: Doubles $105-$155, including breakfast. Room 3 in the carriage house was $140 in October.
Directions: Rockport is 40 miles north of Boston, about a one-hour drive. Take Route 1 north to Route 128 north, toward Gloucester. After crossing the bridge over the Annisquam River, continue straight through two rotaries to a traffic light. Turn left at the light onto Route 127 and continue for about three miles. At the five-way intersection turn left and continue on Route 127 toward Pigeon Cove. King Street is on the right, and the inn is 400 feet down on the left.![]()
