Getting there

Most of the sites on the trail are on or near Route 7, at exit 2 off the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90). A detailed map is available at www.uhvafamtrail.org or www.AfricanAmericanTrail.org .

Related events

Three inaugural bus tours of the trail will leave from the Second Congregational Church, 50 Onota St., Pittsfield, Sept. 15, 8 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per person, $20 for seniors, lunch included. Advance registration advised.

A gospel music concert will be held Sept. 15 at the Church Street Center Auditorium, 375 Church St., North Adams, 7:30 p.m., free to all who attend conference or bus tours, $12 for others. For reservations, call 413-662-5543 .

A national interdisciplinary conference, ``The Shaping Role of Place in African American Biography," will take place Sept. 14-17 at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, and at locations in Sheffield and Pittsfield.
