Bike sledding Another unique Swiss sledding option available in Grindelwald and its neighboring villages are "velogemels," or bike sleds (above). Prices for the upright riders average about $8 per day. Going downhill on a velogemel can be rough (no gel seats on these babies) and the seeming lack of control -- no brakes, you drag your feet to stop and turn -- makes for an exhilarating way to experience the slopes.

Winter walking

Luzern is a city in central Switzerland with access to several easy to moderate hikes (luzern.org ). Grindelwald is in Switzerland's Jungfrau region and is conveniently located near several dozen hikes of varying degrees of difficulty (grindelwald.com ).
