Greek and Roman galleries
Metropolitain Museum of Art
NEW YORK
Last month, the Metropolitan Museum of Art unveiled its redesigned galleries for Greek and Roman art. The rooms include works that cover a 1200-year span, from 900 BC to the fourth century. Supervised by architect Kevin Roche , the redesign cost $220 million and took 15 years to complete. The galleries display some 5,300 art works, roughly 95 percent of the museum's Greek and Roman holdings. Thecenterpiece of the redesign is the Leon Levy and Shelby White Court for Hellenistic and Roman Art , a two-story atrium that brings in natural light and restores a space originally designed by the firm of McKim, Mead, and White and which recalls the garden of a Roman villa.
