Stowe Mountain Lodge, a luxury hotel with slopeside access, is celebrating its first ski season with three packages, one of which is called the Winter Wildlife Adventure.

Participants get overnight accommodations, a one-hour guided snowshoe tour of Spruce Peak, complimentary snowshoe rentals for each member of the family, breakfast for two each morning, a thermos of hot chocolate and trail snacks, one make-your-own-snowman kit for families traveling with children under age 12, and, for weekend bookings, two passes to a special Kids Night Out event.

The package, available through March 31, starts at $509 per night, with a two-night stay required.

Winter sale for escapees

Orbitz has launched its Winter Escape Sale for both hot and cold destinations. Through March 29, the online travel agency says you can save up to 50 percent on selected hotels in more than 45 destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Wait and save

Spa treatments aboard cruise ships can be expensive. Depending upon the cruise line, you might save 10 to 20 percent by waiting until the ship is in port or near the end of its itinerary. In both instances, specials are sometimes offered.
