DJs spin around the world
Wonder-full, a Tribute to the Wonder of Stevie: As far as we know, the boy genius turned grown-up soul sensation will not be in attendance, but top DJs will be there spinning Stevie Wonder’s best jams, plus cover versions, samples, and snippets from Wonder’s four-decade catalog. Nearly 1,300 folks crowded into the Vanguard to attend this event in previous years, including celebs such as Prince and Jude Law. The night starts with a set from Prince’s official DJ and MTV fixture, DJ Rashida. Then DJ Spinna and Bobbito pay tribute to Wonder with extended sets. Doors open at 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. 6021 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, 323-464-7373, www.giantclub.com.
World’s Largest Disco: Polyester, with its matchless combination of comfort and breathability, can be a difficult fabric to leave behind. This is probably why 7,000 folks still pull on the poly-blends and hit the dance floor every year in Buffalo for the World’s Largest Disco. The 16th annual gathering brings out a host of 1970s glitterati - such as cast members from “The Brady Bunch,’’ “CHiPs,’’ “The Partridge Family,’’ and, of course, Leif Garrett. The party is for charity. No, the charity is not the polyester industry. Regular admission tickets are sold out, but VIP tickets are still available for $125. FERNANDO DE NORONHA, BRAZIL
House Ship: Five days worth of DJs spin for a series of indulgent shipboard parties as a luxury cruise ship hugs the gorgeous coast and the spectacular islands off Brazil. Obviously this gathering is just a tad more expensive than a normal night out at the clubs. Top rooms go for about $4,000. But instead of shuffleboard, there are dozens of on-board parties. DJs include Dubshape, Will Saul, and Phonique & Vincenzo. www.houseship.com.br.
Le Batofar: Spend New Year’s Eve on the Seine listening to cutting-edge DJs. The red party boat, Le Batofar, plays host on the banks of the river in the 13th arrondissement. The New Year’s Eve lineup has yet to be announced, but parties on the boat tend to sell out quickly, particularly on holidays. Check the website for updates and ticket sales.
