Utah by hand, on foot
Make pottery using ancient Anasazi techniques and tools, or hike through Zion National Park with new programs offered by Red Mountain Resort in St. George, Utah. In the “Touch the Spirit of Clay’’ group workshop, you shape pottery by hand and then decorate it using paint made from natural minerals and local vegetation, and native plant brushes ($100 per person every Saturday, 3-5 p.m.). California loves your canine
If you and Rover spend Father’s Day in California, consider joining the Run in the Name of Love, a 2K run-walk in dog-friendly Carmel-by-the-Sea. The June 19 event is open to a maximum of 300 participants and their canines. Dogs under 50 pounds receive a race shirt ($16 extra), while larger ones receive a bandanna ($8). There is also a people-only 5-kilometer run for up to 1,000 participants. Race founder Susan Love organized the runs, which benefit two local youth programs, in memory of her son, who died in a snowboarding accident.
