DEC. 9-12

MINEHEAD, England

All Tomorrow’s Parties’ “Nightmare Before Christmas’’: This edition of the curated indie rock festival may take its title from the Tim Burton movie, but there is nothing particularly scary or holiday-oriented about it. Most ATP gatherings are curated by just one artist or band; here three bands showcase some favorite musicians. Les Savy Fav has lined up its favs for the first day of the festival, including Hot Snakes, Simian Mobile Disco, the Budos Band, and Future Islands. Battles chooses the bands for day two with Gary Numan, Washed Out, Flying Lotus, the Field, and Nisennenmondai. One-man band Caribou finishes the weekend with his picks Junior Boys, Silver Apples, Four Tet, and Theo Parrish. Tickets, including accommodations, $540 to $2,000. SENTOSA, Singapore

ZoukOut: DJs play all night on the posh island of Sentosa at this massive, 12-hour festival of throbbing beats and sleek evening beachwear. Both sound equally enticing. Last year’s 10th anniversary spectacular attracted a crowd of 27,000 to Siloso Beach. This year’s party includes sets from Armin van Buuren, Avicii, Bob Sinclar, Carl Craig, and Scratch Perverts. And just to prove that top-notch DJs do not come only from England and the Netherlands, ZoukOut is hosting big names from the Singapore circuit such as Masterpiece, Donn, and Jeremy Boon. Tickets $60 to $75. www.zoukout.com

SYDNEY

Homebake: Australia sheds any mislabeling as a modest continent with Homebake. This all-day festival is essentially a talent show for Australian bands, with a few New Zealanders tossed in for good measure. Despite the fact that Kylie Minogue is nowhere to be seen on the bill, there will be performances from Cut Copy, Ladyhawke, Daniel Merriweather, and Architecture in Helsinki. There are even sets from bands you didn’t know still existed - we’re looking at the Church and Icehouse. Still, couldn’t these folks at least book Dannii Minogue? Tickets are $95. LOS ANGELES

Big Time: We can practically hear what you are thinking: New Year’s Eve plans? I haven’t even bought a turkey, let alone made a list and checked it twice for naughty people. Well, even if you are not exactly thinking the same thing, there are some New Year’s Eve parties that perpetually sell out, such as Big Time. This year’s extravaganza features sets from Benny Benassi and Dada Life. There are a boatload of packages to choose from, $55 to $135. Shrine Expo Hall, 700 West 32d St., giantclub.com PLAN AHEAD

MARCH 31-APRIL 1

SANTIAGO, Chile

Lollapalooza Chile: This version of the US music festival offers a showcase for the best of international music, in addition to bands on the Santiago scene. The 2012 lineup has yet to be announced but this year’s artists included Kanye West, the Killers, Flaming Lips, and 30 Seconds to Mars. Tickets are already on sale, from $118 to $148.
