Elisa Monte Dance at UNH

Posted by Kimberly Sherman September 22, 2008 01:48 PM

One great thing about living in New England is the number of higher education institutions, because with higher ed. comes the arts. And the University of New Hampshire has a wonderful lineup of performing arts this fall, beginning with one of New York's most respected contemporary dance companies, the Elisa Monte Dance Company.

Formed in 1981, the Dance company travels internationally, with more than 35 countries on its resume. This year, the company premieres its new work, Zydeco Zaré, which is inspired by the style of folk originating from African American and Creole descendants of freed slaves in southern Louisiana in the late 1800s. Movement to Zydeco must offer a vibrant, thrilling performance by this company. The show is Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. and tickets range from $10-30.
