Megabus has launched a free alert system, which allows the company to notify customers of delays or cancellations through an automated voice message to their cellphones. Travelers can sign up for the service online when booking their trips. The company, which says only 5 percent of arrivals and departures are delayed, points out on its website that it doesn't guarantee that it will put out an alert for every delay. Megabus started service in May from Boston to New York offering fares as low as $1 and free WiFi.
