This train ride's for the big kids
Trains aren’t just for the little ones ya know. And wash away the idea that riding a train means cramped quarters, clackety-clacks that make your jaw jiggle, and vibrations that could bounce you into the aisle. The Haight-Brown Vineyard Express offers a scenic ride through historic vineyards, complete with exquisite foods and fine wines, this Saturday, Nov. 8. This train’s set to board the big kids baby.
Upon boarding a 1970’s rail car at Thomaston station, home of The Railroad Museum of New England, passengers will begin their 5 hour journey with a Champagne toast and chocolate covered strawberries. A leisurely ride through quintessential New England scenery to nearby Litchfield, Ct., will include listening to Haight-Brown Vineyard history and practices, while relaxing with a special release “Railway White” wine and light hors d-oeuvres.
The Vineyard is Connecticut's oldest winery, opening its doors in 1975. The 25 acre farm grows 45-50 tons of grapes per year and produces Vinifera wines and French Hybrid blended wines. The Vineyard produces 2,500 cases of wine annually. A tour of Haight-Brown and its winery, including a special view of the cellar awaits your arrival. Staff will guide you through a 10 glass wine tasting, accompanied by artisan cheeses, stuffed breads, and crudités. The tasting ends with decadent dessert displays, tea, coffee and more wine. With your palate pleased, you can lazily relax on the sunset return trip to Thomaston Station. Yes, people life is good.
Train and tasting begins at 2 p.m. Price is $75 per person all inclusive (includes souvenir HBV wine glass). Reservations absolutely required. Return time to Thomaston Station is approximately 7 p.m. For more information call 1-860-567-4045 or visit online.
