Millions of daffodils in bloom on Nantucket

NantucketDaffodil_MAblog.jpgWhile I would rather be outside gardening right now, I do realize my flower beds need this rain. My daffodils are not in full sun, so they are just about to pop which reminds me of the over 3 million daffodils of every color, shape, and size blooming now on Nantucket Island. Taking full advantage of their early bloomer bounty, the island hosts its annual Daffodil Festival this weekend, April 24-26.

The Nantucket Daffodil Festival has flower-filled shows, a Daffy Dog Parade, children’s parade, Daffy Hat Pageant and its grand event, the antique car parade, featuring over 100 daffodil-bedecked antique cars. The parade ends with a Daffodil Tailgate Picnic held on the lawns leading into the village, where choosing between lobster rolls on china, to BLT’s in a box lunch will be the toughest decision you have to make this day. Everything but lunch is free. And let's not forget this is pre-season on the Cape and Islands, so lodging is offered at those discounted rates, making this event another great reason to visit.
