AIG puts Stowe up for sale

Posted by Eric Wilbur, Boston.com Staff May 13, 2009 01:00 PM

In the market for a ski resort?

No real surprise, as it was bound to happen sooner or later, but embattled American International Group is finally putting Stowe up for sale, according to the Burlington Free Press.

AIG spokesman Peter Tulupman confirmed that the company is indeed looking for a buyer for the Vermont resort.

There is no estimate on when the sale will occur, but the Free Press estimates the resort is worth at least as much at Killington, which sold for $85 million in 2007.

AIG has owned Stowe since 1988.

  1. Good idea. I wish they had never let them on the hills. This would be good time to put an end to that.

  1. sure and you will be bankrupt and selling the mountain again it a year...there is a reason Taos opened to borders last year skiing is net participant loss sport stupid kids on snowboards pay the bills...BTW I don't remember when Stowe has ever not allowed snowboarding, at least as far back as 1986

  1. I too would love to have the hill closed to all snowboarders. The biggest problem I see is that boarders (not borders!) just don't seem to have it figured out. Seriously, when have you ever seen a snowboarder NOT pushing the snow off the hill? Skiers make these beautiful curves in the snow. Snowboarders just seem to skid down the hill sideways or worse... lay about the place.

  1. more people complaining about snowboarding, go figure ! Most mountain and the ski industry are still alive today because of snowboarding. Take a look at www.bomberonline.com and learn about snowboarding.

  1. to all the skiers who want to complain about snowboarders, I hope you have 210cm straight skiis, because guess what, sidecut was invented by snowboarders. that's right, the sidecut that supposedly allows you to make beautiful carves in the snow is the direct result of snowboarding. although i suspect you don't know the difference between carving and skidding a turn. but if you would like to see what snowboarding looks like, i welcome you to come to AK, then we'll see who's skidding down the mountain:)

  1. Why can't we all just get along? I don't think I've ever heard a snowboarder say we should ban skiers from a mountain.
