Marblehead lights up for the 4th

Posted by Kimberly Sherman June 29, 2009 08:25 PM

masskites.jpg From July 1-5, the seacoast town of Marblehead, Mass., celebrates the holiday with its jam-packed annual Marblehead Festival of the Arts. Visitors to the festival will be able to view works of different mediums, as well as speak with the artists themselves. By special arrangement, a chamber group from Symphony by the Sea will perform music to accompany the opening evening's art viewing.

Artisans will display crafts, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media, sculpture, senior art, youth art, and student art. The MFoA is hosting a guest exhibit by ArcWorks, a guild for artists with physical or intellectual challenges. Outside the galleries and tents, you'll find a gorgeous kite flying festival, plein air painting (painting outdoors), sand sculpture competitions, and a model boat building activity. Think ahead and find some unique gifts for those on your holiday list, by purchasing goods from juried local artists. The Festival is free, and truly has something for everyone. Visit online or call 781-639-2787 for details.
