Central Park View Suite mandarinoriental.jpgAmid the recession, the travel and tourism business is struggling. To cut costs airlines have trimmed flights. But what do you do if you're a hotel or a theater?

       The answer is start discounting.

The folks at NYC & Co., the Big Apple's tourism marketing organization, are offering up a series of deals for those planning to visit the city Jan. 4-Feb. 28 (AKA The Dead Zone).

For those looking for a getaway at a luxury hotel, they are now offering a third-night-free promotion at any of the 15 hotels in their "Signature Collection'': The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel; Hôtel Plaza Athénée New York; Loews Regency Hotel; The London NYC; Mandarin Oriental, New York; The New York Palace; The Peninsula New York; The Pierre New York; The Plaza Hotel; The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park; The St. Regis New York; The Sherry Netherland; The Surrey; Trump International Hotel & Tower; and The Waldorf Towers.

Tapped out after the holiday and looking for a slightly shorter stay? NYC is also offering a Real Deal promotion, under which about 70 hotels are offering either a $50 bonus or in some cases a 50 percent Sunday night discount on a minimum two-night stay, with arrival on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. The cool thing about this promotion is that if you avail yourself of this one you can claim the same bonus or discount if you return for a trip in July or August.

Under this promotion, there are also dozens of other discounts for museums and restaurants.

     Check it out.
