New Bedford defies winter on Feb. 11 AHA! night
We're convinced that open gallery/studio nights are a great way to get insight into a city. We've written in the Travel section about our experiences in Portsmouth, N.H. and Providence. But we confess that we have yet to make it to the AHA! (art/history/architecture) events in New Bedford, which have been going on for 10 years and now take place on the second Thursday of the month. Thanks to the presence of the excellent art school at UMass-Dartmouth, New Bedford has an unusually vibrant scene. But the Feb. 11 event, promoted as a pre-Lenten Carnevale bash, promises to kick things up a notch with free music (and dancing), a mask-making workshop, a wedding cake tasting, children's entertainment, and a slew of talks, poetry readings, and (as ever) shopping. For more information, visit the AHA! web site.
