Trapp Lodge debuts new brewery

I'm sitting in Stowe's Ye Olde England Inne over the weekend (enjoying Rock Art's stellar double IPA, but that's not the point), when a bloke to my left orders "The Trapp," which instantly becomes the center of discussion.

 

In a state where it's becoming increasingly more difficult for brewers to distinguish their product in the plethora of local beers that have flooded the market in Vermont, Stowe's Trapp Family Lodge is generating a lot of early buzz with its new brewery, slated for a grand opening next month. The brewery, the culmination of the vision of Johannes von Trapp – the youngest child of Maria and Baron von Trapp, who today runs the lodge - will replace the Austrian Tea Room serving two styles of beer, the Golden Helles and Vienna Amber. The Trapp hopes to sell a bottled product available throughout New England within the year.

 

Meanwhile, reaction to the product was mixed at the Ye Olde, where a good number of Vermont's locally-brewed products are available on tap. In an environment filled with hoppy ales, can Von Trapp's lagers make a dent in the industry? If distinguishing yourself is part of the battle, seems the Trapps have a leg up.
