SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Remember Julie "your cruise director" on the old TV show "The Love Boat?'' Meet Robert Vickrey, her 21st-century replacement. Vickrey is -- get this -- Director of Romance, at the Royal Palms Resort and Spa, an intimate hotel originally built in 1929 as a summer retreat for Cunard Steamship executive and financier Delos Cooke.

Vickrey, working with Director of Guest Experiences Sarah Escobedo, customizes the resort's Romantication offerings: think over-the-top experiences designed for lovebirds, newlyweds, engagements, and anniversaries. Or, for that matter, anyone seeking such niceties as private, candlelit desserts; rose petals at turn down or in a bubble bath; sensuous lingerie; or custom photography.

Wait! It gets better: The Royal Palms even has a Guide to Romance and Chivalry, with 75 hints for romantically challenged men. That's a link that might get a lot of action around holidays and birthdays, hint...hint....
