If you happen to make your way to Laborie on the south coast of St. Lucia, you might look up a home boy, Jonathan Guy-Gladding, who divides his time between the sunny Caribbean village and Cape Cod where he grew up.

"After attending UMASS Amherst, I spent five years in New York City as a computer animator for Sesame Street," says Gladding. "I had given up painting while in New York because of a lack of inspiration, but when I got to Laborie, I couldn't walk out the door without seeing something I wanted to paint. " So began a long-term mutual love affair between artist and place that continues.

If you don't find Gladding painting on the beach or street, no worries. He's still a presence in his village mural, and in his Laborie-inspired paintings now being shown throughout the Caribbean. Lately, they seem to sell almost as soon as the paint dries.
Here, Gladding shares a video of his adopted part-time home, and some of his paintings. See his website www.jagartist.com for more.
