Millennium Hotels offers LGBT discount
Summer is the season for Pride weeks around the nation, which potentially means travel for some members of the LGBT community.
Seizing the opportunity, Millennium Hotels and Resorts, which partners with the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, sent out press releases reminding about the 15 percent discount it offers LGBT travelers who book lodging through a special page on the company's website or by calling 866-866-8086.
The discounted rooms are limited but the rates are good at all 14 of the chain's hotels in cities across the United States.
While poking around on the site I did discover something interesting. It appears that LGBT customers headed for the Millennium Bostonian across from Faneuil Hall can actually do a bit better if they are AAA or AARP members, which can earn them discounts of as much 20 percent. For instance, I arbitrarily choose the weekend of June 11-12. The standard rate is $309; the LGBT is $262; and AAA and AARP advance purchases are $248. (A Millennium spokeswoman confirmed that customers can only use one discount so there's no benefit in trying to claim a rate as an elderly gay AAA member.)
Doing a quick search of a handful of other Millennium locations around the nation showed that, for the most part, the Pride rate was the best deal going. But not here.
For those who are interested, the Millennium folks have compiled a list of Pride weeks in cities where the chain has properties. For that list, read on.
