Rail Europe Inc. has unveiled what it says is the first-ever mobile rail booking tool that enables travelers to go from destination to destination, connecting 35 European railroads in 32 countries. The Rail Euro App is for iPhone and iPod Touch and rolls digital itineraries, rail guides and alert systems into one, allowing travelers to choose the route, select a seat and book tickets from their hand-held devices.

Rail Europe’s app and mobile site, http://m.raileurope.com, uses existing booking-engine features and interactive maps. The app uses geo-location technology to provide side-trip ideas available by rail, calculating the time and distance. The app is available through Rail Europe’s site and at http://www.apple.com/iphone/apps-for-iphone/

Rail Europe, based in White Plains, N.Y., is also offering a rail deal in honor of the 125th anniversary of Carl Benz (who with wife, Bertha, founded Mercedes-Benz) receiving his first gas-powered engine patent. The Germany Rail ‘n Drive package offers bookings for German Rail ‘n Drive, Eurail Select Pass ‘n Drive or EurailDrive with $65 savings by entering promo code CAR125. Bookings can be made by visiting Rail Europe’s website, http://www.raileurope.com/promotions/german-celebration-car.html  through June 17, valid within six months of purchase. Prices start from $255 for German Rail ‘n Drive and from $594 for EurailDrive.
