Airline survey picks Tel Aviv as best gay city
Tel Aviv was named the world's "Best Gay City of 2011" in a recent survey on www.gaycities.com, sponsored by American Airlines. The Israeli art, culture and nightlife metropolis got nearly half the votes, with New York City, Toronto and Sao Paulo finishing second, third and fourth. Boston didn't make the top eight listing, or any ranking in the nine categories judged, but Provincetown did, taking top ranking in "Best Gay Resort Town," with 28 percent of the votes, listing as best stays, Beaconlight Guest House, White Porch Inn and Romeo's holiday, and best beach, Herring Cove.
In the survey, Tel Aviv was described as the gay capital of the Middle East as "an exotic and welcoming destination with a Mediterranean c'est la vie attitude." The city hosts its annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Festival and parade June 8.
