How about an inexpensive July 4 in lower Manhattan?
It's a happy day when a night in Manhattan costs $69, the single rate at The Bowery House in the former 1927 Prince Hotel. Deployed in World War II as temporary housing for returning troops, the historic landmark has been restored with its 1940s cabin craftsmanship intact. It's cozy for sure, but stylish and close to prime viewing of the fireworks over the Hudson. A blanket, a $28 bus ride, and a 4th of July weekend in NYC is about as affordable as staying home.
