Anyone traveling to Vacationland with a canine companion should make a point of stopping at one of the state information centers to pick up petMaine. The free booklet produced by RFB Advertising and Downeast Dog News in Rockland is full of useful information on dog-friendly lodging and restaurants, beaches, parks, and trails. You'll even find a dog-friendly windjammer or two. Useful information on kennels, pet-sitters, doggie daycare, and emergency vet care make the 48-page publication a must-have for folks who can't bear to leave Rover at home. Although the publisher makes online versions available (including a mobile app), they lack the extensive listings of the printed booklet.
