For the first time in the magazine’s history, Sports Illustrated took models to seven different continents for its annual swimsuit issue, a effort that will be chronicled by the Travel Channel in a special later this month.

“Hands down, this is the most fantastic armchair adventure you can take this winter,” Travel Channel president Laureen Ong said in a statement. “We jumped at the chance to partner with Sports Illustrated,, knowing our viewers will enjoy this fascinating and exciting travel show packed with extreme backdrops and locations. This is not an hour of just models posing on sandy beaches — this special takes viewers to all seven continents, spotlighting the most magnificent places in the world.”

"Sports Illustrated: The Making of Swimsuit 13 – 7 Continents, 17 Wonders" debuts on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. The swimsuit issue’s publication date is on Feb. 12.

The magazine said that it is the first to do a fashion shoot in Antarctica, among the locations visited, which also included Namibia, China, Australia and Easter Island. Swimsuit magazine editor MJ Day says it took seven months to complete.

“The journey to all seven continents was a bold undertaking to deliver, once again, a spectacular swimsuit production for our millions of loyal fans,” Mark Ford, president of the Time Inc. Sports Group said. “We are delighted that the Travel Channel will present the vibrant behind-the-scenes narrative and visuals of this epic and rigorous production. It will show a completely new and captivating perspective of the swimsuit franchise.”
