Much as we New Englanders like to think we have a monopoly on glorious fall foliage, we do not. The San Francisco area has some pretty spectacular autumn colors, and several resorts are offering stays in conjunction with the changing season.

The Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos has a “Sips and Saddles” deal, which celebrates the season and California Wine Month. Located about a half hour from San Jose in the Saratoga foothills, here you can take a scenic horseback ride through the Fremont Older Mid-Peninsula Open Space Preserve on the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and enjoy a wine tasting at Garrod Farms, which has views of San Francisco Bay and the Santa Clara Valley. Room rates start at $415 a night, and packages include the horseback ride, five-flight wine tasting. Check out www.tollhousehotel.com for info.

The Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa in Sausalito has a “Taste of Wine Country” deal going, where guests can partake of wine in the two-story Bacchus & Venus art gallery/tasting room overlooking San Francisco Bay. Rates start at $249 per night (two-night minimum), choice of a guided wine flight and cheese pairing or a portable cheese tray with bottle of California wine for the room, and 10-percent off any treatment at the spa and item at Bacchus & Venus. Visit www.casamadrona.com

In the heart of the Bay City, Hotel Abri runs its “Shop ‘Til You Drop” deal, with rates starting at $314 a night and include a $25 gift card to Westfield Mall and a Hotel Abri canvas bag, use of the shopping-bag valet program,  and a post-shopping break coupon, good for a cocktail at the Puccini & Penetti in Union Square. Visit www.hotelabrisf.com for information.

Across San Francisco Bay is The Lodge at Tiburon, which has an “Adventure on Angel Island” package going. The Lodge is located in the cafes, boutiques and galleries of Tiburon, and is offering two roundtrip ferry tickets and bike rentals for Angel Island, a picnic pack and room, with rates starting at $289 a night.
